American Kemmer shots a 63 to lead as Kemarol stays in the hunt

Dodge Kemmer shot an opening round nine-under-par 63 to take the first day’s lead in the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour’s CCM Rahman Putra Championship today.
The American blitzed the Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia course with a fiery display of controlled aggression in the RM200,000 tournament that is co-sanctioned with the Asian Development Tour (ADT).
Beginning his round on the second nine, the 28-year-old was one-under at the turn and followed that up with an eagle on the 3rd hole, his 12th and added six birdies in a row. His second nine was an eight-under-par 28 effort.
Australia’s Darren Tan and Nattawat Suvanajanakorn of Thailand had matching 65s in joint second place, while Japan’s Shunya Takeyasu, Sutijet Kooratanapisan of Thailand, Finland’s Janne Kaske and Jordan Sherratt of Australia were another stroke adrift and tied for fourth place.
Kemarol Baharin was Malaysia’s top-placed player. He was joint eighth with George Gandranata of Indonesia and Scotland’s James Byrne. They were on 67.
Happy with his day’s work, Kemarol said: “I had a chance from 25 feet for and that really kick-started my round as I went on to play more solid golf.
“I had seven birdies in all and that was a good thing as I was giving myself chances.”
He added: “My game is feeling good since securing my card at the Asian Tour Qualifying School and this course is in a good shape and I am looking forward to continuing with this good form.”
