Naqiuddin scores massive victory in Taiping

Muhamad Naqiuddin Fuad won the 9th leg of the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Development Circuit - Qualifying School at Taiping Golf & Country Club today and did so with a massive 11-stroke margin.

One of several amateurs in the field, Naqiuddin shot a third and final day 75 to leave Mohamed Hafis Kamarudin to settle for the runner-up spot.

The champion’s effort earned him a RM3,000 voucher and it was deserved reward for a top-class showing in the feeder circuit event that had a few professionals in it as well. His last day three-over round gave him a two-over 218 total, following a 71 and 72 over the opening two days.

On a day when the course played its toughest, Naqiuddin did not registered a birdie and instead had three bogeys on his card – including one at the last hole.

Despite this, Naqiuddin said he was happy to have emerged with the win.“The course was tough on all three days, but we battled through it. I played some good golf so I am pleased with how it all turned out,” he said.

With Hafis on 229 in second place, Johnny Tam was the highest placed pro on 232. He was third on the leaderboard after a final round 75, while Idzkandar Bin Idzhar shot a 77 and finished in fourth place on 234.

Chan Kai Zhane, another player from the amateur ranks, round off the top-five after carded a 78 and was 235 for the tournament.

The next event on the PGM Development Circuit - Qualifying School is scheduled at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club in Shah Alam from August 17 - 19 (Monday – Wednesday) 2015.
