“INTERNATIONAL CREDITS RECEIVED FOR TOURISM MALAYSIA”

Tourism  Malaysia was the first recipient of a special DIAMOND AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE for the achievements of a Tourist Office world wide made by the  International  Association of  Golf  Tourism Association (IAGTO).
Chief Executive Peter Walton revealed the winner to the  700 delegates and dignitaries of the 4th annual Asian Golf Tourism Convention held in Jakarta recently.

Walton told the delegates “Over the past 18 years, we have seen that real success for achieving sustainable golf tourism comes when the private and public sectors work together. We need Ministries and Tourist boards to support the promotion of golf in the Asia Pacific region.
“So the final winner goes to a Tourist Board that deserves recognition for supporting its national golf tourism industry through the funding of a long term golf tourism promotion strategy that began in 2011”.

Tourism Malaysia Director, Saidi Bundan, said: “Winning this accolade is an achievement that we really appreciate for our hard work in promoting the destination. Since four years ago the government has focused on the golf segment as one that can contribute to the economy.
“We started marketing and promoting golf, together with non-governmental organizations, golf resorts, golf clubs, ground handlers and hotels under the Malaysia Golf Tourism Association (MGTA). Since then we have doubled our effort in promoting golf tourism throughout the world and especially to our regional target markets.
“This award is further recognition of the hard work that has been done by the government and private sector to promote Malaysia as the best destination for golf, not forgetting the industrial players allied to golf. We are thankful to all those people”.

EDITORS NOTE
Malaysia will easily win more award in many aspects of golf soon it will be best destination for golf competitions. and more and more later
ASSIST TO GOLFERS TO BE GREAT-damaru

May WE  drive your attention to something different  now please

1-While Malaysia is gaining a fine reputation as a golfing destination and a fine location for international golf competitions, we lack fine golfers. Most awards are collected by non-Malaysians.

We see few reasons for this
1-  lack of playing facilities despite  boasting over 250 classy golf courses- Why?  Our pro golfers carrying the PGM card  is not recognised by our own clubs hence no free -green-fee playing facilities. Further having paid green fees they have to take buggies.
Imagine Pros training with buggies?????

2-  Despite having giant corporations some of them even recording  billions in losses and  affordable -too do not come forward to sponsor our pros. Result is Malaysian pros are not full time golfers they are part timers as they need to find sustenance expenses. Even among the players who make the cuts (win about RM 1800 COST per tournament is RM 2500 or more) winning is not enough to cover the costs of playing.

Now CONSIDER this- taking- the advantages of having top golfers in Malaysia that draw world attention.

Eg: Tiger as a Malaysian or Vijay Singh as a Malaysian - the resulting free publicity is immense, and the nation at large benefits while retaining some of  the big money we are offering- which is Even better than for tournaments in Singapore or Thailand or even India. But they have better players than Malaysia.

INDIA as I have seen have plenty of patriotic golf courses and companies.Thailand too.SINGHA  is the life blood of Thai Golf starting from Thongchai  over several decades ago to now still going strong Patriotism to the hilt

May WE now request your attention to grooming  top golfers from Malaysia by way of getting assistance on the two subjects I have mentioned above. YOUR TASK WILL BE MUCH EASIER IF A TIGER-LIKE  golfer is present in Malaysia. The world will flock to Malaysia the way they flock to Florida.

Golfers need venues to practice and sponsorship to stay focused on the game. It will never be possible to achieve in numbers like Thailand or India, or any thing good in the absence of such support.
Malaysia certainly have good right pedigree golfers to reach the very top. They are part timers at present.

Grate malaysian golfers will make all winners- the clubs that offer facilities to  practice and the corporation that sponsors golfers  will all benefit by the presence of golf world in malaysia- grate golfer will catalyze the golfing industry as a whole -it is a win win   situation.
