Tour leader comes from three strokes back to nail down a third win of the season

NICHOLAS Fung won his third tournament of the PGM Tour season when he captured the RM150,000 Melaka Classic at Ayer Keroh Country Club today with a come-from behind win.

The 23-year-old from Kota Kinabalu shot a fourth round 70 for a three-over 291 and one-shot victory.

Zurie Harun fired the best round of the tournament with his final day four-under 68. That gave him a four-over 292 total and second place.

Kemarol Baharin, who went into the last day with a three-stroke lead, finished third. The Kuala Lumpur-based, who was playing his first tournament since being hospitalized and having lost some 8kg in weight in the last month, carded a three-over 75 for a 293 total.

Speaking after being presented with the trophy and winner’s cheque of RM25,200, Nicholas said he was pleased to have picked up a third victory this term, which consolidated his position at the top of the PGM Tour’s Order of Merit.

“It was not easy this week,” said the reigning PGM Player of the Year “The course played really tough, but it was like that for all the players. So, to win it is satisfying.”

Looking ahead, Nicholas said he would be making his way to Kuching for next week’s MNRB Sarawak Masters, which is co-sanctioned with the Asian Development Tour and carries world ranking points.

Zurie said he might have gone lower had a few other good putts dropped.

“But I am still happy with today’s performance,” added the 38-year-old.

Power of subconscious mind-  for great Golf
Pilot is an expert not by experience by but by the ability to handle successfully  crisis situations. Which is result of subconscious mind and not rational logical mind since action is quick and spontaneous. So are the expert vehicle drivers  who can avoid front cars sudden breaking accident , So are all great sportsmen form foot ball players, tennis players  ,basket ball players and golfers too as all action are spontaneous actions resulting from the feel of how best to handle the event in hand..
They all act without rational logical thinking but buy spontaneous  decisions. There is no time for logics. As for golfer despite playing for four hours and for days they hardly have time to rationally and logically think and act. 3 second per shot  does not allow much time. Hence the game is played buy the subconscious  mind, what is stored in the brain the good  will result in good shots .Poor golfer either think of technique or filled with bad subconscious mind . Good golfer will have good, fine shots. Subconscious mind loaded with confidence and fine memories .Hence with confidence driven buy the feel of the shot needed.
This is sub conscious mind can come only to golfers who practice with total dedication & focus , concentration etc. Talking during p[practice or playing is killer , never be possible to load the  subconscious mind what is needed -the feel of the shot  the feel of the game. It can come only to lone  p[personality who is constant concentration. Hitting 1000 balls practicing long hours has  no bearing on performance  when the mind if not in focus. Mouth Open -Mind shuts  lali.elite.golf

Commenting on his season overall, in which he has picked up a couple of runner-up spots, he noted that a swing change has helped.

“I have been working on my swing for some time now and it appears to be getting better. However, at times I have found it difficult but I am perserving.

Kemarol said he was just happy to be in contention after his recent health issues, but he did lament, what he called poor putting in the last round.

“In the second and third rounds (69 and 73) I played reasonably well, but today I struggled with my putting. I hit the ball well and gave myself a few chances, but my putting was not there and ultimately it cost me,” he said, adding that he would have to undergo surgery to correct a lung and throat problem.

PGM Tour Chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji said the quality of play on the Tour had improved in leaps and bounds since the circuit began three years ago and that they looked forward to enhancing it further.

“The Tour has come a long way in a short period of time and we are working hard to make it even stronger,” he added.

The PGM Tour’s MNRB Sarawak Masters is scheduled for Kelab Golf Sarawak from October 3-6.
