Samat Wins Impian Satellite
The only sub-par round snares comfortable two-stroke victory
An inspired one-under-par 71 in the third and final round of the fifth PGM Tour Satellite event at Impian Golf & Country Club in Kajang, Selangor today saw Abdul Samat Abu win the event and earn himself a Tour card for the rest of the season.
Carding the only sub-par round of the tournament, Samat finished on 7-over 223 for a comfort two-stroke victory over second round leader Almalik Faisal Zainuddin and a massive six shots ahead of Mohd Rozi Mat Jusoh in third place.
Amateur player Md Azhar Md Tahir was fourth on 231, while Mohd Shanizam Mohagi was fifth, a stroke further back and Azhan Effandy Jaferi, another of the amateurs in the field, was sixth on 233.
Samat, happy with his triumph, said he looked forward to playing more in the PGM Tour events, which he added was good for the local game.
Almalik, meanwhile, might be disappointed after posting a six-over 78 that obliterated his chances of claiming a first PGM Tour win, but he will have learnt a lot this week, which could stand him in good stead in the future. The runner-up went into the last day with a five-stroke advantage.
The PGM Tour’s next event is the Kelantan Classic at Kelantan Golf & Country Club in Kota Bharu, Kelantan from May 27-30.
