Swedish eFloren Flourishes in Langkawi PGM tour ADT events draw talent from far away.

The top-three shoot a combined 25-under in rain-hit opening round

two players in the top-three are swedish of those in the clubhouse after rain wrecked havoc in the first round of the RM200,000 Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour LADA Masters at Gunung Raya Golf in Langkawi, Kedah today.

Leading the way for the Scandinavians was 23-year-old Nils Floren, who fired a brilliant nine-under 63 to lead by one stroke from Scotland’s James Bryne and compatriot Malcolm Kokocinski, who were joint second.

Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung was fourth on six-under and Wasin Sripattranusorn of Thailand fifth with a 67, a shot back.

With a few flights still to complete their first rounds, following a heavy afternoon downpour that halted proceedings, play will resume earlier than usual tomorrow to catch up. But it is unlikely that any of the late starters will come near Floren, who played really solid, although he said “it was nothing special”.
“I just gave myself a lot of chances, mostly between 5-15 feet and I made nine of them (the putts).”
Following in the footsteps of his older brother Oscar, who plays on the European Tour, Floren said he would endeavour to continue with the form that took him to the top of the leaderboard today.
The 24-year-old hit three of the par-5s in two and two-putted for birdie and on three occasions came to within five feet for a trio more. At the 1st hole he drained a 15-footer for birdie and at the 14th had a 30-foot birdie putt drop.
“My game plan will be to just carry on with the same mindset,” he said later. “The course really suits my game.”
Twenty-one year-old Kokocinski is also right there in the hunt with his eight-under-par.
He said: “I only turned pro six months ago, but won a couple of tournaments as an amateur, so I must be happy with the way things are going.”

He added that his father is caddying for him this week.n Flourishes in Langkawi

ot a combined 25-under in rain-hit mid suspended  -re started opening round

SWEDEN had two players in the top-three of those in the clubhouse after rain wrecked havoc in the first round of the RM200,000 Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour LADA Masters at Gunung Raya Golf in Langkawi, Kedah today.
Leading the way for the Scandinavians was 23-year-old Nils Floren, who fired a brilliant nine-under 63 to lead by one stroke from Scotland’s James Bryne and compatriot Malcolm Kokocinski, who were joint second.

Byrne won the CCM Rahman Putra Masters in February and looks primed to have another stab at a PGM title that is co-sanctioned with the ADT Tour.

The 24-year-old hit three of the par-5s in two and two-putted for birdie and on three occasions came to within five feet for a trio more. At the 1st hole he drained a 15-footer for birdie and at the 14th had a 30-foot birdie putt drop.

He added that his father is caddying for him this week.
