Paramaswaran Wins Maiden Tour Event
Bukit Unggul pro seals Impian Satellite title with 14-stroke victory
WITH a workmanlike final round 73, P Paramaswaran won his tournament on the PGM Tour when he comfortably took the third Satellite Tournament at Impian Golf & Country Club in Kajang, Selangor today.
Paramaswaran, who led by a massive seven
strokes going into the third and final round, finished on one-under-par 215 for
a staggering 14-stroke victory.
In second and third places, were amateur
players Khairul Nizam Md Rasip (80) and Mohd Soaphee
Yaacob (73), who carded totals of 229 and 231, respectively.
Kenneth Lui Da Hu i,
another player from the amateur ranks, was a shot back in fourth spot, while
Ricky Yeow (A), who was second after the
first round, finished on 234 in fifth place.
Nicholas Leong (A)
was on 21-over 237 in sixth place, following a final round 78, while Imran
Syafiq (A) shot a 76 on the last day for a 239 total and seventh spot. Rozaini
Rosli had a 77 and finished tied on 240, alongside fellow amateur Azlan Meri

place, on 241 was another amateur, Mohd Zain Mohd Tahir, who also shot a final
round 80 and ended up on 241.
Paramaswaran did well to bounce back after a
bogey-bogey start. The Bukit Unggul pro hit back with birdies at the 4th
and 6th holes, and while he conceded another two bogeys at the 10th
and 14th, he closed out the tournament with another birdie on the 18th
hole.
Delighted with his success,
Paramaswaran said: “This win qualifies me to play regularly on the Tour proper
now and that is what I’m looking forward to doing.
“I enjoyed the
tournament and it was a good experience. The course was in great shape despite
the rains and under the conditions I am very happy with the way I played and
the fact that I won.”
Khairul was pleased
with his second-place finish but added that he just could not do any better
than the eight-over 80 he shot today.
“I found things very
difficult out there today, but I gave it my best and I’m happy with the
runner-up spot. I learnt a lot this week and hopefully it will hold me in good
stead in the future,” said Khairul.
The next tournament on the PGM Tour schedule
is the RM200,000 PGM Maybank Johor Masters (ADT) at Johor
Country Club in Johor Bharu, Johor, from April 10-13.
